18 March 1999: Asahi Glass of Japan is expanding the custom manufacturing offered by its fine chemicals division to meet the increasing demand for outsourcing in the life sciences industry. The long-term goal is to become a one-stop shop for a wide range of cGMP requirements, according to a recent report. During 1998, a new cGMP plant was opened at Chiba and two other plants were brought up to cGMP status. A plant bought in 1998 is also being brought up to cGMP. Asahi is looking at the feasibility of developing global production capacity, possibly through mergers, acquisitions and alliances.
