25 February 1999: According to a recent report, Chinese-owned glass product producer Globe Securities wants to raise money to expand either through buying other companies or joint ventures with Australian companies. Globe, controlled by substantial Chinese corporations, believes it can benefit from Australian technology and financial expertise, which it will use to develop markets in the massive Chinese market. The underwriter, Montagu Stockbroking, says Globe has US$ 400 million in assets. Sales of Globe“s glass products rose by 34% in the 1998 financial year, and consolidated net profit after tax rose by 182%.
