AGP-Poland breaks ground for biodiversity

Colleagues from three glass production facilities in Poland joined forces for a large-scale tree-planting event as a Community Involvement Project for biodiversity last summer. AGP-Poland, part of the Ardagh Group, collaborated with the Regional Directorate of State Forests for the planting event in which 85 volunteers took part. By the end of the event, colleagues and their families had planted three distinct forests of oak, pine and beech – a resounding success.

The aim of the tree-planting drive was not only to support reforestation efforts, but also to foster a sense of community and environmental stewardship. Children in particular were encouraged to get involved. The hope is that this experience will instil in them a love of nature and a sense of responsibility for the environment. After all, it is today’s children who will witness these saplings grow into tomorrow’s mature forests.

After the day of hard work, volunteers and foresters gathered to enjoy some well-earned food and refreshments in the forest’s beautiful recreational areas, further enhancing the community spirit. As a token of appreciation, each volunteer received a lavender seedling to take home, while the foresters were presented with a unique keepsake – a ‘forest in a jar’ – symbolising the collaboration between the glassworks and the forestry services. This planting initiative is a testament to the power of community in environmental conservation.
