Mukul Somany, vice-chairman and managing director of Hindusthan National Glass and Industries Ltd (HNG), has been appointed president of The All India Glass Manufacturers“ Federation (AIGMF) for the 2010-12 financial year. During Somany“s tenure, the objective for AIGMF would be to expand its network through various memberships and contracts. The Federation is planning to sign formal contacts with IIP, FEVE, WPO, GPI and other renowned glass associations for better coordination on common issues. A formal contract with the Government of India is also being planned to create the required infrastructure for glass recycling, an important but hugely neglected aspect of glass manufacturing in the country. Speaking on the occasion, Somany said, “I feel greatly humbled by the confidence AIGMF has shown in me. As the president of the Federation, my duty would be to promote glass as a sector through various programmes and initiatives. I shall try not only to match up to the expectations of my peer group, but also broaden the purview of our activities so that we can emerge as a global entity.”
