Amitech Spain, a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Arabian pipe maker Amiantit, will supply fiberglass pipes worth SAR 80 million (USD 21.3 million/EUR 17.8 million) for a drinking water pipeline in Spain, it was reported on 20 April 2004. When construction is complete the pipeline will transport potable water from the Pyrenees, on the French border, to Zaragoza, in northeastern Spain. The total cost of the project, due to be completed in June 2004, is EUR 140 million (USD 167.6 million). Amitech Spain was awarded the contract by Spanish construction company Obrascon Huarte Lane, responsible for the pipeline project. Under the contract, Amitech Spain will supply a total of 42 km of pipes. Currently, Amiantit, based in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, comprises 37 production and 11 technology companies in 21 countries worldwide. Amiantit“s products are sold in 70 countries.
