Thanks to a competition co-sponsored by the Polish glass operation of international packaging company, Ardagh Group, two Polish students have taken important steps towards future careers as packaging designers.
‘The Art of Packaging’, organised by European Media Group in Poznan, brought together design students from art colleges throughout Poland and professional designers who competed in various categories to find the most creative packaging design talents in the country.
Ardagh, which has glass design and manufacturing units in Gostyń, Ujście and Wyszków, was one of the sponsors in the debuts category. Participants were given a brief to create a glass container and the very high standard of work made judging especially difficult.
The winner of the cash prize was Joanna Kasperkiewicz from Wroclaw Art College. Her highly distinctive salsa jar had, in the opinion of the judges, met the brief perfectly, and had that ‘magical’ quality.
The Internship Award went to Katarzyna Surma from Poznan Art College for her range of very elegant mineral water bottles with three different embossed designs. Katarzyna will be benefitting from a three-month internship at Ardagh’s design studio in Gostyń.
Barbara Maciałczyk from Ardagh explains: “As a major company in the Polish packaging industry we support initiatives to encourage the next generation of designers. The ‘Art of Design was an ideal opportunity for design students to showcase their creativity, and we were very impressed by the instinctive way the two winners applied their knowledge of glass as a packaging material to produce some very original outcomes.”
