US-based Avery Dennison Corp. announced the opening of its new manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. The US$ 15-million unit aims to expand production capacity to meet the demand for pressure-sensitive materials in growing ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) markets, said chairman and CEO Philip M. Neal. The company, which established its presence in Asia in 1987, is planning further expansion in the region with the opening of a distribution center in Malaysia later this mont. Another distribution center in the Philippines is also scheduled to open in October. Avery Dennison had sales of US$ 3.8 billion in 1999, and develops, manufactures and markets a wide range of products for consumer and industrial markets, including self-adhesive materials, labels, specialty tapes and chemicals.
