9 April 1998: Brazil“s Blindex Vidros de Seguranca, a safety glass company of the English group Pikington, is reportedly investing US$ 16 million in the installation of a new windshield factory, which is expected to increase by 50% the production capacity available in Cacapava, Sao Paulo. The current installed capacity of the company“s industrial complex is enough to equip more than a million vehicles per year, producing 3 million square metres of mirrors and 800,000 square metres of glass laminates for the architecture market. The objective of the expansion, according to the manager of Blindex“ laminate area, Marcio Flavio N. Martins, is to meet the growing demand of the automobile and autopart replacement industry. The installation of the new unit involved the purchase of a windshield oven, totally imported from SIV, the Pilkington group“s subsidiary in Italy.
