30 April 1998: BOC Coating Technology of the US said it has engaged China“s Shenyang Gem-Port Vacuum Engineering, manufacturer of vacuum equipment, to provide direct parts sales and service support for their glass customers in the Peoples Republic of China. “We have decided that our customer base in China warrants such a collaboration, and are pleased to provide enhanced service. We feel that the local availability of expert service and parts will offer distinct advantages to our customers,” said Phil Johnson, general manager of BOC Coating Technology. “The real benefits for our customers are that spare parts order placement, technical support and field service are available during local business hours and can be purchased in Chinese Renminbi (RMB) rather than US dollars,” said Jay Cowan, manager of customer support. BOC Coating Technology is a unit of The BOC Group, the worldwide vacuum technology, industrial gases and distribution services company operating in more than 60 countries. The company posted sales last year of US$ 6.4 billion.
