Italian crystal maker Calp (Colle val D“Elsa in the province of Siena, central Italy) has withdrawn its decision to temporarily lay off 220 workers out of a total workforce of 565. The move was announced at the end of meeting between the President of Siena province, Fabio Ceccherini, and the Managing Director of Calp, Enzo Urbani. Mr. Urbani had received instructions from the company board of directors to withdraw the lay-offs. The starting point for the resumption of negotiations between company and unions will be the September 2005 accord, under which there would be no redundancies until 2008.
