10 December 1998: The Canadian container glass group, Consumer Packaging, is investing an estimated ItL 60 billion (around US$ 36.4 million) in reviving an existing container glass business near the town of Teramo, in the central Italian region of Abruzzo. For the purpose, the Canadian firm has set up a company, Consumers Glass Srl, which has, for the time being, leased the glassworks from the receivers. The next phase has yet to be finalized and will depend on the acquisition of the premises by the Canadian group. The aim is to increase production capacity, which will involve the creation of about 100 new jobs.
