Roger G. Ackerman, 62, chairman and CEO of US group Corning Incorporated has announced his retirement plans. The Corning board has elected John W. Loose, 58, as the new CEO, effective 1 January 2001. Loose is currently president and chief operating officer of the company. Ackerman will remain chairman of the board until Corning“s annual shareholders“ meeting on 21 June 2001, when he will retire from the company. “My retirement in June of 2001 is consistent with a long-term plan that I have had in place with our board of directors and happens to coincide with the 150th anniversary of this fine company,” said Ackerman. Corning also announced the election of three senior executives to its board: James B. Flaws, Corning executive vice president and chief financial officer, Peter F. Volanakis, president of Corning Technologies, and Wendell P. Weeks, president of Corning Optical Communications.
