Corning Inc. and a German firm, Eglasstrek Patent Promotion & Awarding GmbH, have reached an amicable resolution on a 2002 lawsuit over alleged copyright infringement and theft of trade secrets. Details of the settlement were not announced. Eglasstrek spokesman Diether Bottger said in a press release that “Eglasstrek direct-heated platinum equipment does not use any (of) Corning“s trade secrets or copyrights, so an amicable settlement of the disputes between Corning and Eglasstrek was inevitable.” The lawsuit also named PicVue Electronics Ltd. of Taiwan, with which Corning Inc. reached a settlement in October 2005 on alleged misappropriation of trade secrets and copyright infringement. A former Corning Inc. employee pleaded guilty on 17 January 2006 to stealing proprietary information and selling it to PicVue representatives. The information concerned the fusion draw process that Corning uses to produce substrates for liquid crystal displays. Another defendant is scheduled to appear in federal court in Rochester, New York State on 16 February 2006.
