On 4 December, Corning Incorporated of the United States announced that its Board of Directors has elected James B. Flaws as vice president and controller as of 1 February 1997. The following officers were also named: Larry Aiello, Jr., senior vice president International, also effective from 1 February 1997; Robert A. Gilchrist, vice president and chief information officer, and Pamela C. Schneider, vice president, Finance and Administration Corning Communications, both effective immediately. Mr. Flaws, 47, joined Corning in 1973 as a financial analyst in the International Division. In 1983, he was appointed director, Finance and Administration Corning Consumer Products Division. In 1988, he was named division vice president, Business Development Consumer Products and in 1990 he was named vice president and chief financial officer Corning Consumer Products Company. He has served as assistant treasurer, Corning Incorporated since 1993. Mr. Aiello, 46, joined Corning in 1973. In 1981, he was appointed manager of Domestic Accounting and in 1984 controller for the Telecommunications Products Division. He was named division vice president and director, business development and planning Opto-Electronics Group in 1990 and subsequently served as general manager of the Opto-Electronics Component Products Group. He currently serves as vice president and controller, Corning Incorporated. Mr. Gilchrist, 50, most recently served as division vice president and director Information Technology. He joined the company in 1973 at the Corhart Refractories plant, and in 1986 was appointed plant manager of the Pressware plant. In 1989, he was appointed manufacturing manager for Science Products Division and in 1991 director of glass businesses for the division. Ms. Schneider, 42, joined Corning in 1986 as senior financial analyst in the Controllers Division. In 1991, she was named chief financial officer of Corning Asahi Video Products and in 1993 vice president and chief financial officer for Corning Consumer Products Company. Most recently she served as division vice president, Finance and Administration Corning Communications.
