US-based Corning Inc. introduced two new PurePathT optical switches for the delivery of bandwidth in metropolitan and long-haul dense wavelength division multiplexing systems. In a recent press release, Corning said the PurePathT Wavelength Selective Switch, based on liquid crystal technology, can switch up to 40 channels individually. Samples will be available in the first half of 2000, with a pilot manufacturing line commencing operations in the second half of 2000. The PurePathT Wavelength Modular Switch is a reconfigurable optical add/drop module. Prototypes will be available in the fourth quarter. Corning makes optical fibre, photonic components, high-performance glass and components for TV and other electronic displays.
