COVID-19: TYROLIT supports the production of glass partitions

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries are still in an emergency situation, others are beginning to recover, but what will accompany all countries on their long road to recovery are social distancing rules

Many countries agree that if the infection spreads again, a further lockdown is not economically viable. For this reason, working and living spaces have been reorganised to minimise the risk of infection. Partition walls have become one of the most common furnishings we find in offices, restaurants, shops, supermarkets and public places.

During this pandemic, many factories have switched production to the manufacture of medical equipment such as respirators and face masks and the like. Many glass processors have also adapted their production and specialised in the manufacture of glass partitions.

The Italian company Centre Glass di Riato, based in Veneto, an Italian region that has reacted better than others to the pandemic, can testify to the increasing interest in glass partitions. “There is a growing demand for partition walls both from local administrations and private companies,” said the owner Walter Riato. The glass partitions are machined using the polished edge technique with the help of TYROLIT tools for glass processing, such as milling machines, as well as segmental and trapezoidal wheels with a diameter of 100 mm. As the tools are manufactured by TYROLIT Vincent, whose glass tooling plant is located in Thiene, Vicenza, Veneto, the supply chain to Centre Glass di Riato is kept short and local.

Taking environmental sustainability into account, glass is also 100 percent recyclable and fireproof.
It has been widely proven that glass is the best solution for the safety and protection of people.

According to a study by the medical journal “The Lancet” on the resistance of SARS-CoV-2 under various environmental conditions, no infectious virus could be detected on treated smooth surfaces such as glass after day 4, whereas on plastic it only disappeared completely after day 7. In addition, glass is more resistant to scratches than plastic and does not yellow. Transparent glass allows natural light to be filtered and keeps the same amount of light in the room. TYROLIT tools help ensure the pristine quality of the processed glass.

The following TYROLIT products are used:

Diamond peripheral wheels for flat edges

  • Segmented rim
  • Metal bonded tools for flat glass edges.
  • Application: single and double straight edging machines, CNC machines.
  • Diameters from 25 to 200 mm.
  • For processing glass thicknesses from 3 to 19 mm.

Peripheral wheels for glass processing

  • Continuous rim for edge processing.
  • Metal bond trapezoidal and pencil edge peripheral wheels for single and double straight edging machines: conventional and vertical CNC machines.
  • For application in the flat glass, household appliance and solar industry.
  • Extensive range of diameters and tools for glass thicknesses from 3 to 19 mm.

Diamond segmented router bits for milling all glass types on CNC machines

  • Due to an excellent homogeneity in consumption during use and stability of the product, high removal and excellent finishing are always granted. By using TYROLIT tools, the cycle times are always optimized compared to the other tools on the market.
  • Thanks to the extreme attention to the dressing of these tools, an immediate start-up is possible.
  • Various bonds are available.

To learn more about the central role of glass in the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic, GIMAV – the Italian association of glass manufacturers – has launched a campaign called #glassistheanswer.
