Rear-view mirrors are fine for detecting large objects behind your car. But they reveal no information about anything lurking below trunk level. Nor are they useful for scanning the rear seat to keep an eye on little Jessica, or Adam, in the child seat. VideoMirror, new from Donnelly Corp., based in Michigan, US offers solutions to both problems. Its BabyVue system uses a rear-facing camera inside the car to monitor loved one in the back seat. A flip-down display, hooked to the auto-dimming rearview mirror lets you keep an eye on the goings on in the rear without diverting your attention from the road. The system is powered by the overhead dome interior light. The system, including auto-dimming mirror and camera, sells for US$499.
