Over the past few years, the restoration and reproduction of historic windows has increasingly been discussed in terms of thermal insulation. The luxury Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort in County Limerick (Northern Ireland), built in the mid-19th century in neo-Gothic style as a private family residence is a perfect example of how Edgetech‘s Super Spacer® Heritage makes it possible to fulfil the requirements of monument protection, the expectations of style-conscious building owners and climate protection targets.
Super Spacer® Heritage spacer, a flexible warm edge that was specially developed for double glazing in the restoration sector. It provides an attractive and energy-efficient solution for nearly all conventional rebate types and allows for exceptionally low sight lines because of its modest height of just 3 millimetres.
And concerning the advantages of the Super Spacer® Heritage, the list is quite long: low thermal conductivity with durable edge seal, an exact formation of corners and precise edges, a flexible foam matrix and a high desiccant content for moisture absorption. In addition to its aesthetic aspect, the lower dew point is particularly important for the restoration of historic wooden windows as condensation is not only a visual and health problem, but also attacks the wooden frames.
Concerning the Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort, the historic glass was reused wherever it was possible, and all modern single-glazed windows were replaced with double glazing. IMC Glass supplied a total of around 1,100 insulating glass units to three different window manufacturers for the renovation of the main house and Carriage House.
Some characteristics of the Super Spacer® Heritage are: height of 3 millimetres, widths of 4, 6 and 8 millimetres, two colours available (black and white) and is it compatible with hot melt butyl as a secondary sealant.
