Egyptian Kuwaiti Holding Company (EKHO) has signed a preliminary agreement with Guardian Middle East and Africa, for the sale of a 34% stake in the Egyptian Flat Glass Company (EFGC). EKHO holds an 88% stake in EFGC. In June 2002, Egypt“s Ministerial Committee for Privatization accepted EKHO“s bid to purchase 88% of EFGC for EGP 271 million ( USD 58.6 million), following fierce competition from British bidder Pilkington International. Based in Michigan, USA, the privately owned Guardian Industries Corporation is an international manufacturer of float glass and fabricated glass products for the construction industry, and one of the world“s largest producers of mirrors. The corporation employs 19,000 people at facilities around the world.
