Encirc appoints new Energy Manager

Glass manufacturer Encirc has appointed David Burns as its new Energy Manager, to help drive the company’s ambitious sustainability programme.

The new role has been created as part of Encirc’s evolving commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations and finding areas where it can further boost sustainability.
David will play a key role in helping to identify opportunities to further reduce the carbon footprint of Encirc’s sites at Derrylin, Northern Ireland, and Elton, Cheshire.
He will be responsible for implementing initiatives to minimise energy consumption, such as furnace refurbishment and ways to increase the re-use of waste heat, coupled with exploring more sustainable energy options, such as the use of natural gas and bio-energy fuels.
David has been a member of the Encirc team for 13 years, joining the Quality team at Derrylin before transferring to Elton in 2005.
He was appointed quality manager in 2010, where he worked to ensure Encirc’s products consistently met the highest quality standards.
“Seeking solutions to boost the sustainability of Encirc’s products and our operations has always been a big focus for me,” David commented.
“I want to build on the company’s achievements over the last decade to find ways of working that can help us further boost energy efficiency across both sites, so we can make sure we’re offering our customers the most sustainable glass supply chain possible.”
Robert Rose, operations director at Encirc, added: “David has done an incredible job strengthening Encirc’s reputation for quality.
“With his new position, he’ll support us in leading the industry as a sustainable supplier, helping ensure we continue to support customers in achieving their own sustainability goals.”
