Semiconductor subsystems maker Entegris Inc. posted a wider-than-expected quarterly loss of USD 7.6 million, or 7 cents a share, caused by restructuring charges, at the end of October 2009. The third-quarter results of Entegris, which makes products to protect and transport materials used in making chips and disk drives, included amortization of intangible assets of USD 4.7 million and restructuring charges of USD 2.4 million. Quarterly sales of USD 110.7 million dropped more than 24% compared to the same period in 2008, but beat expectations from Wall Street analysts, who were expecting a loss of 4 cents, on revenue of USD 104.0 million. The company, which derives more than 70% of its revenue from outside the US, has, among its most significant customers, the world“s largest contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, top European computer chipmaker STMicroelectronics NV and Dutch chip equipment maker ASML.
