Expo Milano 2015

AGC’s Planibel Linea Azzurra glass in the Azerbaijan pavilion.

Visitors of the Expo Milan 2015 can admire AGC’s Planibel Linea Azzurra glass in the shape of a gigantic sphere in the Azerbaijan pavilion. The country participates for the first time in the Universal exhibition.  The sphere, which is integrated in the architecture of the pavilion, represents the biological and cultural diversity of the country. The main idea behind the configuration of the pavilion is the biosphere as a system that is open for external influences, while protecting and promoting life within its own borders.
The design and realisation of the pavilion were made by Simmetrico, an Italian network, in cooperation with the architects of Arassociati, structural designers from iDeas and the landscape designers AG&P.

Traditional Azerbaijani materials, such as wood, are combined with industrial materials, such as steel and glass.

AGC Glass Europe’s Planibel Linea Azzurra was chosen for the sphere, the facade and the balustrades of the pavilion. This clear float glass with its characteristic slight blue tint is manufactured exclusively in AGC’s Cuneo plant in Italy and is especially suited for large glass surfaces and high-class architecture. It can be easily cut, edged, tempered, bent and laminated.

In addition, the pavilion floor incorporates Planibel Clearvision, a low-iron glass from AGC Glass Europe with a high level of light transmission and outstanding colour rendering.

The glass parts of the pavilion were processed by a number of experienced Italian glass specialists, including Vetreria Valsugana, Bizzotto Vetraria, Vetrocom srl, Vetrodomus Spa and Viraver Technology Srl.

The pavilion is the result of a large-scale team effort involving more than 300 people (250 in Italy and 50 in Azerbaijan). After the Expo Milano, the pavilion will be reassembled in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, illustrating the sustainable approach running through this project.
