f | solar starts series production of 2mm thin solar glass with low iron-oxide content

f | solar GmbH is the first solar glass manufacturer to file an application for the allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung ‘national technical approval’ (abZ) for 2 mm thick heat-strengthened glass with the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DiBt) in Berlin.

f | solar GmbH will be present at this year’s edition of ‘Intersolar Europe 2013’ in Munich with solar float glass with a thickness of only 2mm and very low iron content. Initially made in series production, this glass is heat-strengthened and provided with extremely robust and homogenous antireflection coating. This product – with the name f | solarfloat HT – is optimally suited for long-life and low-weight Glass-Glass-PV-Modules of the latest generation.
The new solar glass is exclusively made on the basis of the float glass technology. This well-tried process ensures the maintenance of tight manufacturing tolerances and low defect density as decisive advantages for the following processes, such as tempering.
The high pre-stressing rate of glass is a decisive prerequisite for the strength of the Glass-Glass-PV-Laminate. Therefore, the ultra-modern continuous tempering furnace of f | solar ensures optimum results with regard to planarity and bending tensile strength. With its typical bending tensile strength of 120 N/mm this heat-strengthened 2mm solar glass even exceeds the standard requirements for 4mm standard glass. f | solar GmbH is the first solar glass manufacturer to file an application for the allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung ‘national technical approval’ (abZ) for 2mm thick heat-strengthened glass with the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DiBt) in Berlin.
f | solarfloat HT is provided with extremely robust and homogenous mono-broadband antireflection coating under purest vacuum conditions so that some 94% of energy transmission (TePV) are ensured. Therefore, the glass is optimally suited for silicon solar cells with selective emitter technology.
The company f | solar puts the focus on industrial manufacture and marketing of highly transmissive solar glass with specifically low iron content and with efficient, extremely robust and long-life AR-coating.
f | solar is a Joint Venture between AGC/Interpane and the Dutch Scheuten Group, two multinational undertakings with some 100 years of experience in the field of high-grade glass production.
Some 250 experts are employed for production in the most modern and fully integrated solar glass works in Germany with up to 700 metric tons per day of extremely low-iron solar float glass. Of course the highest standards of environmental protection are met.
