The American firm, GE Lighting has launched a new bulb called Reveal which represents a step up in light quality and price from GE“s flagship Soft White bulb, introduced 20 years ago. Reveal will be available in 22 bulb types, including four-packs of 40-, 60-, 75-, and 100-watt bulbs, priced to retail between US$ 2.99 and US$ 3.99 for the standard four-pack. The standard Soft White retails between 99 cents and US$ 3.49 for a standard four-pack. Light from the Reveal bulbs makes objects appear richer in colour, more vivid and less yellow. Reveal uses a coating of the natural earth element neodymium, which filters out yellows in the colour spectrum to produce a crisper light. Initially the bulb was launched as GE Enrich, as a two-pack for US$ 3.89 in most markets. But after marketing and advertising didn“t produce the desired results, GE decided to offer the bulb in more silhouettes, at a lower price, and change the name and marketing to better explain the bulb“s features and benefits.
