German glass industry notes significant growth

Germany is seeing overall positive growth in packaging, with sales on the increase in almost all sectors. According to sector organization Aktionsforum Glasverpackung, the positive trend has continued to evolve.

According to German Aktionsforum Glasverpackung, which includes manufacturers of packaging and packaging made of glass, the increase in volume of sales for the year to September 2011 was 4.8% compared with the previous year. The positive trend has continued to evolve.
In particular, sales of bottles for water and soft drinks (23.8%) and beer (7.6%), saw a sharp increase, with the beverage market remaining stable and tending to increase on the whole. Increased sales were seen in the segment of alcoholic beverages (10%) and sparkling wine (7.6%) with a slight increase in sales of bottles for wine (0.4%). A slight decline was seen the juice sector, (-1.2%), and in the milk segment (-2.2%).
Sales of glass containers for food products increased by 2.1%. Glass containers and packaging for cosmetics and pharmaceutical products also increased in sales (respectively 2.9% and 2.3% compared to the previous year).
