GfE: EESC plenary approves the opinion on European Glass Industry

Flat glass will play a major role in delivering the EU’s Renovation Wave ambition to drastically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions from buildings

The European Economic and Social Forum (EESC) has approved today the opinion “Glass in Europe at a crossroads: delivering a greener, energy-efficient industry, while enhancing competitiveness and maintaining quality jobs”.

The EU is the world’s biggest producer of glass and Europe needs to maintain the production while supporting innovation. “Glass products are indispensable to the transition towards a climate-neutral circular economy” said the EESC opinion drafted by Mr. Plosceanu (repporteur) and Mr Kreuzer (co-rapporteur). “The glass industry is the future in delivering a greener, energy-efficient industry, while enhancing competitiveness and maintaining quality jobs” tweeted Mr Kreuzer right-after the positive vote of the EESC plenary assembly.

Flat glass will play a major role in delivering the EU’s Renovation Wave ambition to drastically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions from buildings. The installation of windows equipped with high-performance glazing would allow massive CO2 reductions from buildings. At the same time, as a key component of photovoltaic solar panels, flat glass is indispensable to produce renewable energy.
