Phil Brown, Pilkington“s regulatory marketing manager, has been appointed president of the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), and will serve as president for two years – from 1 January 2010. As 2010 is likely to see another year of difficult trading for the glass industry in the UK, the focus will be on providing greater support to existing members while still attracting new members, Brown said, adding that his appointment came at a crucial time for the industry. Significant regulatory changes are expected to be implemented in 2010, not least the revision of Part L of the Building Regulations in England and Wales, which will be the next step on the road to zero carbon buildings as standard. This will bring an increased emphasis on solar energy applications, further highlighting the crucial role that glass can play in delivering low and zero carbon buildings. Nigel Rees, chief executive of the GGF, said that Phil Brown was the perfect candidate to promote the best interests of the federation. The challenges that the GGF faces over the next two years come predominantly from regulatory reform and business management in difficult economic conditions, he said. Phil“s experience at Pilkington has prepared him well for this, and I look forward to working closely with him.
