An installation at the Miami International Airport has enabled GlasPro to be awarded the 2012 World of Color Award for the “innovative use of colour in the built environment”.
Selected from a field of the most prestigious art glass producers worldwide, GlasPro has been awarded the 2012 World of Color Award, Interior Division, at the Eastman World of Color Awards in Dusseldorf, Germany. Recognized for “innovative use of colour in the built environment” GlasPro earned the honour for the “Harmonic Convergence” installation at Miami International Airport.
Sunlight, sound, and colour unite in this multifaceted mural which has also been selected Most Innovative Decorative Glass Project, Commercial Exterior, by Glass Magazine. “Harmonic Convergence” provides a unique “immersive colour experience” for travellers. The sunlight entering the wall of laminated glass panels encompasses the entire colour spectrum.
The 72-foot window wall at the heart of this project was designed by Christopher Janney and fabricated by GlasPro Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, CA. The installation is composed of 72” x 72” triple-laminated panels, each meticulously hand-spliced with nine unique colours. This high level of craftsmanship allowed the artist to create a spectrum that gradually changes from deep reds to bright violets, evoking the sensation of a rainbow arching over the Everglades after a mid-summer thunderstorm. The warm sub-tropical sun casts this pallet of colours upon the X-bracing of white structural steel and white interior of the space to envelop all who pass in an “abstraction of South Florida in colour and sound.”
