6 August 1998: Under the sponsorship of the municipal authorities of Colle Val d“Elsa, Siena, Italy, a group of local firms has formed the consortium Glass Technologies Colle Val d“Elsa, for the worldwide promotion of technologies developed in the Tuscan town, which is famous for its production of crystalware. The consortium is coordinated by the engineer Alessandro Bandini and is made up of the following firms: Officine SL, Falorni G&C, Sapi and Borri Daniele, with the consultation of two architects specialized in crystal design, Duccio Santini and Marcello Taddei. Officine SL is a manufacturer of moulds for the glass and crystal industries. Falorni G & C is a company of furnace combustion engineers for the artistic glass industry, Sapi produces acid bath and satin finish plants for crystal and glass, whilst Borri Daniele produces semi-automatic blowing and pressing machines. Glass Technologies Colle Val d“Elsa has recently participated in the China Glass “98 fair, held in Beijing, China from 13 to 16 April. This initiative met with visitors“ approval and was welcomed by local authorities, artistic and industrial glass manufacturers and the local and foreign press. According to the consortium, the technologies proposed by the team were appreciated both for the flexibility of their alternatives, and for the different types of production they apply to. This is important in a period that is seeing the renovation of many Chinese glassworks committed to the manufacture of housewares. In fact, the market for household glass is expected to undergo rapid growth in the years to come.
