19 March 1998: Glavunion, the largest flat glass producer in central and eastern Europe, has set up Liberglav, a new production and distribution centre, as a greenfield project on the outskirts of Liberec in the Czech Republic. The project reportedly cost Kcs 42 million, of which Kcs 33 million was financed by Glavunion, the 100% owner of Liberglav, according to Glavunion spokesman Martin Kubat. Liberglav is expected to produce insulation glass and sell products of Glavunion and of the Belgian company Glaverbel, to which Glavunion belongs. Glavunion has an extensive distribution network of firms in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Glavunion, a part of Japan“s Asahi Glass, the world“s largest glassmaker, reported sales of Kcs 7 billion last year, according to Kubat. “We will disclose results in the next few days. The profit is higher than the year before,” Kubat said.
