GTS: Attendees praise open day exploring innovative glass packaging

Glass Technology Services recently held a free event showcasing the future of glass packaging, aimed at brands and manufacturers who want to stay ahead of the curve.

The open day, entitled “Innovating glass packaging”, was attended by well-known companies including Ardagh, Marks and Spencer, Carlsberg Britvic, The University of Sheffield, Rockfield, Molson Coors and Continental Bottle

Held on-site in Sheffield, United Kingdom, it explored the latest innovations in glass technology – including new glass compositions and methods to make containers lighter – as well as current and potential sustainability breakthroughs that will reduce carbon emissions.

Attendees also had the opportunity to tour GTS’ facilities and see the large scale research furnace, which has a capability of 50kg melts. Not only does this new addition enable brands to experiment with innovative glass compositions, but they now have the ability to scale up trials at a fraction of the cost of testing new compositions in larger furnaces.

In addition, participants enjoyed insightful discussions with members of the specialist team – including Technical Services Manager Daniel Capon, Melting and R&D Lead Martyn Marshall, Energy & Environment Lead Chris Holcroft and Operations & Commercial Director Gareth Jones.

It was also a fantastic opportunity for participants to network with industry peers, taking part in lively and interesting conversations in a unique and inspiring setting.

Gareth Jones said, “It was fantastic to bring together such a diverse group of industry leaders to explore the future of glass packaging. Events like this not only showcase the innovative work we’re doing, but also spark valuable conversations and collaborations that will drive real progress across the sector. We’re proud to offer a space where ideas can be tested and ultimately brought to life.”
