Guardian launches heatable glass for lighting

The most recent development from Guardian Industries is a new glass product for outdoor lighting applications, which can withstand harsh winter months and strong deviations in weather to keep lenses clear of fog, frost and snow, providing secure and efficient lighting with high light transmission.

Guardian Industries has developed a new glass product for outdoor lighting applications. Guardian heatable glass for lighting can withstand harsh winter months and strong deviations in weather to keep lenses clear of fog, frost and snow, providing secure and efficient lighting with high light transmission.
“Until now, LED and other energy-efficient lights had one major drawback in cold climates – they emitted little infrared heat, so fog, frost and snow was able to build up, obstructing light and threatening safety,” said David P. Maikowski, director, Lighting Market, Guardian Industries. “Guardian heatable glass provides the solution.”
Guardian heatable glass for lighting is highly conductive while being highly transmissive. The lenses can be warmed as needed with little electricity, resulting in highly efficient, highly durable fixtures that can be used anywhere – ideal for cold climates and areas subject to inclement weather conditions that could compromise light output.
The product is designed for a variety of outdoor lighting applications, including:
•    traffic lights;
•    airport and aircraft lighting;
•    emergency and security lighting;
•    billboard lighting;
•    residential in-ground lighting.
Through its highly transparent lenses, Guardian heatable glass transmits an extraordinary amount of light, exceeding the illumination possible with alternatives that darken the glass with additives or obscure it with embedded wires. Light transmission can be enhanced with the addition of Guardian’s anti-reflective coating and/or a high index interlayer to increase light transmission while providing increased impact resistance.
“Better light transmission means more lumens with less energy consumption and higher performance, visibility, and safety in critical lighting applications,” said Maikowski.
Guardian heatable glass is offered on UltraWhite™ low-iron glass, standard clear glass, acid-etched glass, textured glass or single-sided anti-reflective glass in monolithic or laminated glass assemblies.
Heatable glass for lighting is part of the Guardian lighting solutions portfolio of products that provide optimal performance, flexibility and control over lighting design. Guardian’s lighting innovations are supported by an integrated supply chain and global fabrication services.
