The Alava, northern Spain-based flat glass manufacturer and processor Guardian Llodio Uno SL, has announced the release of a EUR 28 million investment project which has been on hold since March 2008. Part of the investment (EUR 11 million) will go to build a PV glass production line at Llodio, while the remaining EUR 17 million will be allocated to the replacement of a furnace, used until now to produce figured glass and which, after rebuilding, will serve both activities. The line will have an annual production capacity of 4.5 million square meters, with the aim of meeting, from the fourth year of operation, at least one third of the demand for this material in Europe. Output may start in June 2009 and the company expects to increase its workforce by 50 to staff the new activity. In addition, the company recently announced a new solar control glass production line at its facilities in Tudela, which will absorb another EUR 30 million.
