H.C. Starck has published an updated Sustainability Report that contains information on the corporate group’s economic, environmental, and social performance during the 2013 fiscal year.
H.C. Starck, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of technology metals and advanced ceramics, has published an updated Sustainability Report that includes the relevant information for the 2013 fiscal year.
“The 2013 update takes stock of where we stand in terms of our sustainability performance during the 2013 fiscal year,” explained Dr. Andreas Meier, CEO of H.C. Starck. “We are convinced that sustainability-oriented and responsible actions open up our company to change, thereby strengthening our readiness for the future. With this in mind, sustainable business is a strategic task in our corporate development at H.C. Starck. It is the common thread running through our entire value chain.”
The current report contains information on the corporate group’s economic, environmental, and social performance during the 2013 fiscal year. The company has defined five key areas for its sustainability activities: compliance and raw materials procurement, product innovation and quality, recycling and environmental protection, employee development and occupational safety, as well as social and community engagement. The 2013 update represents another step forward in H.C. Starck’s commitment to sustainability. “We are proud of the progress we have made and the successes we have achieved, so we plan to publish regular reports to inform the public as a responsible company in the specialty chemicals sector,” Dr. Meier said. In the future, the company plans to further develop its commitment to sustainability on an ongoing basis across all areas, implementing it even more effectively within internal structures and processes and systematically expanding the relevant reporting activities.
The 2013 update picks up right where the 2012 sustainability report left off. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a non-profit organization that promotes economic, environmental and social sustainability, had confirmed the report with a “B” rating. H.C. Starck reports on the implementation of its sustainability strategy annually and, every other year, the report is issued in detail, with an external audit. The 2012 report and the 2013 update are posted on the company’s website.
