Producers of green materials, including glass, are encouraged to invest in Viet Nam, where they will be prioritised, said Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi at the 36th ASEAN Federation of Glass Manufacturers (AFGM) conference held in Ha Noi. The three-day conference has attracted nearly 300 glass producers, processors and suppliers from 20 nations. Nghi said in the context of the world battling climate change, exhaustion of natural resources and environment pollution, green and sustainable development has become a key priority for all nations. He expected that AFGM members would set up a plan to turn ambitions into reality and contribute to the development of technology and materials for the sake of the environment. During the conference, participants will focus their discussions on technical methods and applications for glass production, as well as implementing new technologies.

They will also soundboard ideas for raising product quality, increasing capacity and improving working condition for workers.
Glass has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, becoming an indispensable material in modern architecture due to its beauty, durability and being environmentally friendly. The Viet Nam Glass Association joined in the AFGM in 2009. In Viet Nam, there are eight glass factories capable of producing 2,650 tonnes per day, equivalent to 188 million sq.m per year. As many as 95% of glass produced is consumed in the domestic market.
