Japanese glass group Hoya Lens has confirmed the closure in September 2004 of its plant in Pont-de-l“Arche in the Eure region of France. The plant manufactures glass and frames for spectacles. The Japanese group says the closure is a response to rapid market developments and increased competitive pressure. Hoya Lens France will now concentrate production on its second French factory, in Emerainville in the Seine-et-Marne region, which employs about 50 people. The 129 employees at Pont-de-l“Arche will be offered other jobs in the group.
