ICG: workshop for new researchers in glass science & application

From July 2 to 7, 2023, the International Commission on Glass (ICG) will organize a workshop for new researchers in glass in Montpellier, France.

The workshop will overview fundamentals in glass science emphasising structure-property relationships, experimental techniques, material simulations and tools that probe structure. Specific properties and applications will be discussed; for example optical behaviour, transport phenomena, nucleation and crystallisation and strength. The lecturers are all world experts in their fields.

Recognising that 2023 follows the UN International Year of Glass, there will also be an emphasis on glasses and environment, particularly highlighting energy usage in glass manufacture and environmental impact.

A significant aspect of the workshop will be student-centred learning. On the first day all participants will explain their own interest in glass. Based on their specific interests they will be grouped into teams who must debate for or against specific allocated propositions. This will help participants develop presentation skills and their understanding by applying what they know to specific issues.

Prof. J. M. Parker, University of Sheffield, UK
• Prof. R. Conradt , uniglassAC GmbH Co., Germany
• Prof. B. Hehlen, University of Montpellier, France
