ICG: fourth workshop for new researchers in glass science and technology

ICG will host its fourth workshop in Montpellier, France, 2-6 July, which will overview key fundamentals in glass science with an emphasis on structure-property relationships.

The ICG will host the fourth edition of its summer school in Montpellier, France, 2-6 July, with the title of ‘Glasses: formation, structure, and strength’. This workshop will overview key fundamentals in glass science with an emphasis on structure-property relationships. Each day will start with a talk on available measurement/simulation methodologies and their contribution to our understanding of glass structure, both on different length scales and for a broad spectrum of inorganic glass-forming systems. These lectures will underpin talks on properties and their structural dependence e.g. optical behaviour, viscosity and ageing, nucleation and crystallization.
In this fourth programme of the series, special attention will be given to strength and mechanical properties, and to their relation to structure. The lectures will be presented by world experts in their fields. A significant aspect of the workshop will be student-centred projects that encourage interactive learning and help develop understanding by applying what has been learned to specific issues.
The pre-registration deadline has been set for 15 April, and registration should be carried out by 1 June, by email to verres2012@eventuelles.fr.
Cost of participation is EUR 280, which includes coffee breaks and evening dinner each day.
Lodging and meals cost EUR 220, including five nights lodging with breakfast and five lunches in a student residence at the university.
A more complete programme will be posted soon on the ICG website (www.icglass.org) and sent out.
Participants will be limited to 40.
