The fourth programme of the ICG’s series of workshops will focus on glass strength and mechanical properties, as well as to their relation to structure, and will be presented by world experts in their fields.
The upcoming ICG workshop on Glasses: formation, structure, and strength, to take place 2-6 July 2012, in Montpellier, France, will overview key fundamentals in glass science with an emphasis on structure-property relationships. Each day will start with a talk on available measurement/simulation methodologies and their contribution to our understanding of glass structure, both on different length scales and for a broad spectrum of inorganic glass-forming systems. These lectures will underpin talks on properties and their structural dependence e.g. optical behaviour, viscosity and ageing, nucleation and crystallization.
In this fourth programme of the series, special attention will be given to strength and mechanical properties, and to their relation to structure. The lectures will be presented by world experts in their fields. A significant aspect of the workshop will be student-centred projects that encourage interactive learning and help develop understanding by applying what learned to specific issues.
