In a bid to arrest the unhygienic and unlawful reuse of glass containers in the food and pharma sectors, the All India Glass Manufacturers“ Federation (AIGMF), has proposed traceability in glass bottles. “All manufacturers from this month would produce bottles with manufactured quarter and year. Consumers can check whether the bottle is used beyond the expiry date”, said Arun Kumar, the spokesperson for AIGMF and president, AGI Glasspac. AIGMF stated that unhygienically cleaned old glass bottles, if reused, can lead to several diseases such as gastroenteritis, and liver diseases like hepatitis B&C. The Indian Medical Association has deplored the reuse of old glass bottles.
