Intevac, a leading supplier of thin-film processing systems, will showcase TRIO™ – a breakthrough in glass coating set to unlock faster innovation cycles across consumer electronics – at glasstec, October 22 to 25, in Hall 12, Stand C64.
TRIO combines the adaptability of batch coating systems with the high-volume production of inline to address the long-standing limitations and trade-offs of each system for consumer electronics device manufacturers.
In an era where device shape, size and functionality shift at breakneck speeds, TRIO positions device manufacturers in pole position to capitalize on a consumer electronics market projected to grow to USD 1.4 trillion by 2032, according to Fortune Business Insights.
TRIO removes bottlenecks in the production process to accelerate manufacturers’ capacity to qualify new products and scale them to market demand.
“The consumer electronics industry is at a turning point,” said Nigel Hunton, Intevac CEO. “Devices are becoming more complex and diverse, from foldable smartphones to augmented reality glasses, and manufacturers need coating solutions that can keep pace. TRIO is the no-compromises approach that meets current manufacturing demands and anticipates future innovations.”
At the heart of TRIO’s technical breakthrough is a multi-zone approach, a reactive sputtering, and plasma confinement which allows for various coating types and chemical compositions in a single run – meeting high throughput demands while reducing the complexity and cost of the system.
“TRIO’s patented plasma confinement technology allows us to create thick film stacks in a continuous process flow, something previously thought impossible at this scale and speed,” said Sam Harkness, Vice President, Product Development and Technology. “Combining high-rate sputtering with our unique multi-zone approach, we’re able to apply multiple layers of different materials – metals, oxides, and nitrides – in a single run. This dramatically increases throughput and opens up new possibilities for complex, multi-layer coatings that enhance device functionality.”
With over 30 years of experience in glass coating technologies, more than 120 patents, and a 65 percent market share in worldwide media coating, Intevac is uniquely positioned to lead device manufacturers into the next generation of devices and innovation.
