IRIS technology meets beer bottle inspection needs

Four EVOLUTION 5 non-contact inspection machines from IRIS Inspection have been ordered by Verallia Deutschland for its Wirges glass container production facility in Rhineland-Palatinate, and will be dedicated to Heineken beer bottle inspection.

Verallia Deutschland has ordered four EVOLUTION 5 non-contact inspection machines for its Wirges glass container production facility in Rhineland-Palatinate. Developed by leading French inspection technology specialist, IRIS Inspection Machines of Bron, this equipment features base, finish and stress detection capabilities and will be dedicated to Heineken beer bottle inspection.
Although Verallia already uses EVOLUTION machines at plants in other countries, these are the first to be installed by Verallia Deutschland (formerly Saint-Gobain Oberland AG). Wirges is one of four Verallia glass container factories operated in Germany, the others being Bad Wurzach, Essen and Neuburg/Donnau.
EVOLUTION 5 represents a revolution in mechanical and optical design. Including a motorised camera with automatic repositioning, the design features five separate stations, ensuring simultaneous finish inspection, base inspection (by transmission or stress) and mould number reading. Easy access to all inspection stations is provided, with no optical or mechanical adjustment needed.
The advanced optical design permits fast and easy job changes and the equipment’s latest generation of light sources are suitable for everything from dark to white flint glasses.
A subsidiary of the Wisetec Group, IRIS Inspection Machines was established to provide turnkey inspection solutions for mass-produced glass containers of any shape or colour, including wine, beer, liquor and Champagne bottles, pharmaceuticals and food containers. A team of dedicated Research and Development engineers has evolved a range of equipment to match the industry’s demanding requirements and satisfy the inspection needs of key international customers.
The company has based its development on a long-term partnership with glassmakers in the field of glass defects detection, as well as on an exceptional knowhow in the most innovative vision technologies. The success of IRIS is due not only to the exceptional efficiency of its Evolution machines range but also to the excellent support provided by engineers worldwide. Thanks to a network of international agents and technical support service centres, IRIS is able to support customers throughout Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and Australia.
