A type of glass which the Chinese claim to be harder than manganin and more rust-resistant than stainless steel has passed technical examination and gone into trial production in north China“s Hebei Province. According to a recent report, Jingniu Glass Group, a company based in the province“s Xingtai City, spent tens of millions of yuan to develop the product over an eight-year period. The report said the company used industrial residue to produce such glass by the method of continuous rolling. The product, called minicrystal glass plate, reportedly looks like black marble but has a shinier surface, while the company also says the glass is eight times harder than manganin, and its rust-resistance is 15 to 20 times better than that of stainless steel. Additionally, the glass it is not radioactive, according to the Hebei Provincial Bureau for Environmental Protection. Technicians said that the product can be widely used in interior decoration, manufacturing man-made satellites and space shuttles, and in the industries of coal, metallurgy, machinery, electric power and building materials.
