With the help of grants from the Indian government, Krishna Silicate & Glass has re-commissioned its flint bottle and glass tumbler plant at Baruipur, near Calcutta. The bottle plant was closed down over 10 years ago as a result of the company“s poor performance and mounting losses. Krishna Silicate has used the government funding to modernise the plant and install new machinery. According to Krishna officials, initial production, already under way, will serve to test market response before the unit commences full capacity production. The company is confident that its new products will sell well as the brand name “Krishna Glass“ is still prestigious in the local market and is still illegally copied.
