LandGlass: What to be careful for when tempering different types of glass

Some advice from LandGlass, about what to be careful for when tempering different types of glass in a glass tempering furnace.

  1. When tempering glass with holes and slots, the heating time should be increased by 2.5 to 5 percent compared to glass of the same size without holes and slots;
  2. When tempering glass with sharp corners, the sharp corners should point away from the direction of the furnace entrance with shattered glass placed around the sharp corners to prevent the corner part from absorbing heat too quickly in the furnace and causing bending;
  3. When tempering patterned glass, generally place the glass with the patterned side facing upward to avoid damage to the surface of the ceramic rollers; the heating time should be determined according to the thickest part of the patterned glass and the tempering air blow pressure should also be determined according to the thickest part of the patterned glass;
  4. When tempering coloured glass, the heating time is generally reduced by 5 percent compared to the heating time of ordinary glass of the same size because of its higher heat absorption capacity;
  5. When tempering coated glass or heat reflective glass, to protect the surface film, the coated surface of the glass should be placed facing upward when entering the furnace. The heating temperature and heating time of the lower part of the glass should be increased by 2.5 to 10 percent compared to ordinary glass of the same size.
