Japan“s Nippon Sheet Glass Co. refused to comment 2 August 2005 on market talk that it is interested in acquiring UK glass major Pilkington plc. A spokesman for Tokyo-based Nippon Sheet Glass said the company has been aware of the rumors in the financial market for quite some time, but said “our answer has always been “no comment.”“ The spokesman would not say whether the Japanese company is considering any strategic plans involving the UK firm. The agreement on the involvement of Nippon Sheet Glass dates back to 2000. Nippon Sheet Glass now has a stake of about 20% in Pilkington.
