NSG Group has announced that it held the sixth Environmental, Safety and Health Awards (EHS Awards) 2022 as an initiative to encourage and recognize outstanding activities in important areas of sustainability inside the global NSG Group. The following projects were awarded as the winner in each category.
This time, an additional category of Community Projects was added to the existing “Environment” and “Health and Safety” categories to encourage the works the teams carry out with local communities outside of the factory gates.
The winner and four additional commendations in each category were chosen by the judging panel from a total of about 170 project entries in three categories from all regions globally.
Health & Safety Project Award
Automotive Glass Business Original Equipment (OE) North America for their ‘Safety Patrol’ project
The project team worked together to build from old or existing approaches to behavioural safety, to create a structured approach to Gemba Walks (Safety Patrol). This project is culturally very important and promotes a consistent approach to leaders walking the shop floor, recording discussions, hazards and concerns that were observed.
Environmental Project Award
The San Salvo site in Italy, Architectural Glass Float operations and Automotive OE, for their ‘Water Consumption Reduction’ project.
This project significantly reduces more than 70 percent of water taken from a local river used for several applications at the site. This has been done by improving the efficiency of water usage in the production processes such as automated valves, increased water recycling and the use of rainwater.
In the past two years the site has saved over 1.980.000m3 of water equivalent to 800 Olympic size swimming pools. Water that has not been used by the site is now used by Local Public Consortium to purify it for drinking, helping the community especially during the dry summer months when due to tourism the water consumption in the region is higher than average.
Special Community Award:
Automotive Glass Business OE Vizag (India) for their ‘Safety Awareness in the Community’ project.
This project covers all site activities by providing safety briefings and education to local school children and students, safety communication to the community and families of the employees. The winner stood out because of the impressive commitment to promote safety awareness in the communities through 5 C’s: Culture, Collaboration, Communication, Commitment and Contribution.
