O-I Glass’ GOAT (Gas Oxy Advanced Technology) furnace, to be installed by the end of the year in their Vayres glassworks, is just the latest example of the investments that container glass manufacturers are making to reduce their carbon footprint.
The new GOAT furnace will be equipped with an energy recovery system to heat raw materials. A new on-site oxygen production unit will also ensure supply.
By using oxygen as its main energy source, the new furnace is set to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent and NOx emissions by 60 percent.
