O-I plans investments at French plants in Vayres and Puy-Guillaume

The modernizations at Vayres and O-I Puy-Guillaume reflect O-I Glass commitment to the vision of being the most innovative, sustainable, chosen supplier of brand-building packaging solutions

O-I Glass is announcing investments at two of its plants in France. This year, the Vayres plant in south-west France and the Puy-Guillaume plant in central France will implement new systems and technology to build capability and capacity while reducing energy demand and emissions.

A EUR 34 million investment will equip O-I’s Vayres plant with the new Gas Oxy Advanced Technology (GOAT) furnace, which uses oxygen to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent and NOX emissions by 60 percent. The new GOAT furnace will be equipped with an energy recovery system to heat raw materials. A new on-site oxygen production unit will also ensure supply. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

In Puy-Guillaume, a EUR 30 million investment will increase the plant’s production capacity as well as energy efficiency. The project includes rebuilding one furnace and the attached production lines. The line will be more efficient, more flexible and will consume less energy. The modernization at Puy-Guillaume – which celebrates 150 years of glass-making in 2022 – is expected to be completed by mid-year.

These investments reflect the importance and confidence in O-I Glass’ employees, customers and  communities. O-I Glass plants are part of the local landscape and heritage.

Glass is 100 percent recyclable and infinitely recyclable and it’s the ideal material to support a low-waste circular economy.
