A leading glass company has bought International Carolina Glass of Rock Hill, South Carolina and plans to spend US$ 750,000 on rennovations. Oldcastle Glass Group, a subsidiary of Dublin, Ireland building materials group CRH plc, purchased International Carolina Glass and its sister company, International California Glass, on 1 December. Oldcastle will invest a total of US$ 1.5 million in the two plants for new state-of-the-art glass-making equipment. The buyout will not bring new jobs to the Rock Hill plant, said assistant general manager Rick Peters. “Plant expansion would be a potential, but you“ll probably find that we“ll be able to keep the plant the same size,” Peters said. “The need for more people will be down the road.” International Carolina Glass opened at 780 Cel-River Road in 1985, specializing in glass manufacturing for the furniture industry. The plant currently employs 80. “This is going to enable us to go out and do some neat things and expand our markets,” Peters said. Oldcastle Glass Group operates 36 plants with 2,900 employees in North America. The company supplies glass for displays, shelving fixtures, transportation and furniture. The group works in the architectural, commercial and residential glass markets.
